Atomy Products: Helping with Eye Health
Tips for Keeping Your Eyes Clear and Healthy
The eye is the organ that collects visual information, converts it into electrical and chemical signals, and transmits it to the brain via the optic nerve. Unfortunately, they are also the body organs that age the fastest. In fact, many people start to notice various symptoms of eye discomfort after the age of 40. Some of the most common eye diseases include cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and lazy eye.
There are two main causes of worsening eye function: physical and environmental. Physical causes include the degeneration of the ciliary muscles that control focus and the aging of the optic nerve and retina. Environmental causes include excessive use of devices such as TVs, smartphones, and computers, as well as stress, poor nutrition, an unhealthy diet, and smoking.

Let's take a look at one of the most talked-about eye diseases, macular degeneration. Located in the center of the retina, which recognizes light, color, and shape, the macula is highly responsible for our vision. Having macular degeneration means that the macula has deteriorated, becoming unable to fulfill its roles of detecting light, color, and shape.
The most common symptoms of macular degeneration are vision impairment and visual distortion. In the early stages, it is not obvious to notice the decrease in vision, so it can be discovered by accident or mistaken for age-related farsightedness (presbyopia). However, while presbyopia can be corrected by using reading glasses, macular degeneration makes it difficult to see both near and far. If the disease get worse, you'll start to notice symptoms of blurry vision. Letters and straight lines may appear wobbly or crooked, and tiles in the bathroom and centerlines while driving may appear curved, which becomes more noticeable when objects are close to you.
The problem is that most people don't realize how serious macular degeneration can be. It's actually one of the top three causes of blindness worldwide, along with diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. In fact, it's the leading cause of blindness in people over 65, especially in Western countries. (Source: National Health Information Portal, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency)
Macular degeneration is typically considered an age-related disease, mostly affecting those over 50. However, people are starting to develop it at a younger age due to factors like smoking, a high-fat, high-calorie diet, stress, obesity, high blood pressure, and family history. So, it's important to take special care regardless of your age.

As the macula is the most important part of our eyes, there are certain things you can do to prevent macular degeneration and maintain good eye health. Two key actions you can take are avoiding eye strain and eating foods that are beneficial for your eyes.
First, when your eyes are strained, they may become sore or achy, blurry, and sometimes red or tight. Eye strain can eventually lead to issues such as corneal clouding and scarring, pink eye, astigmatism, dry eyes, fungal corneal ulcers, and hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (Source: Health Information, Seoul Asan Medical Center). Therefore, it is important to relieve eye strain regularly through sufficient rest, eye massages, and eye exercises. Especially since modern people spend a lot of time on smartphones and computers, taking regular breaks is essential.
Secondly, it's important to eat foods that relieve eye strain and support eye health, such as green vegetables. However, it can be challenging to get enough of these nutrients in our daily diet, which is why health functional foods can be beneficial. Atomy offers an excellent range of products that can help with eye health. We recommend incorporating them into your routine to prevent macular degeneration and maintain good eye health.
- Adults over the age of 40 should have regular eye exams.
- Those with diabetes, high blood pressure, or dyslipidemia (hyperlipidemia) should receive consistent treatment.
- Consult your doctor if you wear contact lenses.
- Be sure to quit smoking.
- Wear a hat or sunglasses to block UV rays during outdoor activities.
- Maintain proper room temperature and humidity, and avoid prolonged computer use.
- Avoid working too close to the screen, and keep the room well-lit.
- Wear appropriate safety gear when working and exercising.
- Maintain good posture.
- Give your eyes a break between reading, watching TV, or using your computer.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat plenty of liver, egg yolks, fruits, and green vegetables to support eye health.
- Avoid alcohol and tobacco, and reduce stress.

Atomy Eye Health Luaxanthin is a multifunctional product that combines lutein-zeaxanthin complex extract, haematococcus extract (astaxanthin), zinc, and vitamin A.
-
Lutein-Zeaxanthin Complex Extract
Helps maintain macular pigment density for improved eye health
-
Astaxanthin (from haematococcus extract)
Helps alleviate eye strain
-
Zinc
Essential for normal immune function and healthy cell division
-
Vitamin A
Essential for adapting to low light conditions and for the development of epithelial cells
Lutein and zeaxanthin are the primary components of macular pigment. Since the body cannot synthesize macular pigment, it must be obtained through diet. Lutein (extracted from marigold flowers) is found in the periphery of the macula, while zeaxanthin is located in the center. Taking a lutein-astaxanthin complex extract may help maintain macular pigment density, which can decrease with age. Clinical trials have shown that this complex extract is more effective at improving macular pigment density than other nutrients, and higher doses lead to greater increases in macular pigment density.

The Lutein-Zeaxanthin Complex Extract was more effective at improving macular pigment density than other nutrients.

What makes Atomy Eye Health Luaxanthin special is that it contains astaxanthin, derived from hematococcus extract. Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant that can help improve amplitude of accommodation and reduce fatigue by promoting blood circulation to the eyes and alleviating strain on the ciliary muscles. Given the modern lifestyle, where people are prone to eye fatigue from blue light exposure via smartphones and computers, taking astaxanthin may enhance overall eye health. Additionally, clinical trials have shown a significant improvement in eye control ability, which may help reduce eye fatigue.
Carotenoid-based pigments from deep-sea fish and crustaceans help reduce eye strain
Confirmed a significant increase in amplitude of accommodation (rate of change)

- The amplitude of accommodation refers to the eye's ability to adjust its focus, and the test measures this ability at both near and far distances.
- Subjects : 40 people between 20 and 60 years old. (Control group: 30.0±6.0 years old / Intake group: 32.4±6.4 years old (The subjects are healthy adults experiencing rest fatigue. They are either daily TV game or computer users, or VDT workers for more than 1 year, and work for more than 4 hours per day.)
- Daily Intake : 6 mg of astaxanthin per day (once daily, after dinner)
- Consumption Period : 4 weeks
In addition to the above substances, Atomy Eye Health Luaxanthin includes zinc, which can help with healthy immune function and cell division, and vitamin A, which is essential for visual adaptation in the dark. You get four benefits with just a single product.

It has been confirmed that lutein is a component of the macula, the central vision center of the retina, protecting the eyes and helping them function normally. As we age, the macula becomes less pigmented and lutein levels decrease. Since the body can't synthesize lutein, it's essential to obtain it from food. To ensure adequate intake, it's best to consume lutein as a health supplement. Lutein not only makes up the macula but also absorbs active oxygen, protecting blood vessels and facilitating microvascular circulation. Above all, the lutein used in Atomy Eye-Lutein is derived from marigold flowers in the Aztec region of Mexico, which has a natural environment that ensures high quality.
