Which Atomy Beauty Products Contain Ceramides?
Ceramide: The Power Behind Your Skin Barrier
The outermost layer of our skin is called the stratum corneum. Ceramides, which make up over 50% of this layer, act like the mortar between bricks, supporting and holding the skin together. When ceramides are lacking, the skin barrier weakens, making the skin more vulnerable to external irritants. This can lead to dryness, sensitivity, accelerated aging, and, in severe cases, conditions such as atopic dermatitis. For this reason, ceramides are essential as the skin’s first line of defense.
Ceramide levels in our skin decrease due to both internal and external factors. The main internal factor is aging. As we get older, our skin gradually produces less ceramide. This decline starts in our 20s and accelerates significantly after the age of 40. (See graph: Ceramide levels by age, with levels in the 20s set at 100.)

Another internal factor is congenital and genetic predisposition. Patients with atopic dermatitis since childhood may have this due to lower congenital expression of ceramide synthesis enzymes. External factors may include environmental elements such as dry air and UV exposure. Additionally, lifestyle habits like using harsh cleansers, scrubbing too vigorously, stress, lack of sleep, smoking, and alcohol consumption may contribute.
The key is replenishing ceramides, which inevitably become deficient due to various factors, to maintain a strong skin barrier. You can replenish or prevent their loss through foods rich in ceramides, health supplements, cosmetics, and proper lifestyle habits.
Grain husks such as brown rice, barley, corn, and beans are rich in ceramides. Sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, spinach, and seaweed are also commonly used in ceramide supplements. Consistently including these foods in your diet can help support your skin’s ceramide levels.
Ceramide supplementation can be achieved through omega-3 and omega-6 intake, ceramides derived from corn or rice bran extracts, or essential fatty acids from oily fish, flaxseed, chia seeds, and nuts.
You can boost ceramides externally by regularly using skincare products containing ceramides such as NP, AP, and EOP. When choosing products, check the ingredient list to ensure these ceramides are included.
It is recommended to prevent ceramide loss by adopting gentle cleansing habits, like using mildly acidic cleansers and avoiding over-washing. Healthy lifestyle practices—including sun protection, maintaining indoor humidity, getting enough sleep, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol—also help preserve your skin’s ceramide levels.
Ceramides are incorporated into all six products of the Absolute CellActive Skincare line, developed using the powerful efficacy ingredient "CellActive Code" and advanced "CellActive Technology". They help maintain skin hydration and reinforce the skin barrier.
"The Fame" is a representative skincare product that combines proven plant-derived ingredients with Atomy's four major patented technologies. Additionally, panthenol, which binds moisture; hyaluronic acid, which provides hydration; and ceramides, which lock in these hydrating elements to fortify the skin barrier. These three ingredients are included in all five products, working to create moisture and reinforce the skin barrier.
