Finding the Answer to Skin Brightening — Absolute Snow Set

The Atomy Absolute Snow 7-Pieces Set features advanced home-derma brightening care designed to visibly transform dull, lackluster skin into a clearer, more radiant skin. We sat down with its developer, researcher Lee Seung-jae of Kolmar Korea, to learn more about the product’s key features and how to use it.

We also took a closer look at the Dark Spot Corrector—one of the standout products in the Absolute Snow line—to explore just how effective it is in delivering targeted brightening care.

Q1. Could you briefly tell us about the background behind the development of the Atomy Snow line?

A. Many people are concerned about pigmentation issues, such as freckles, age spots, and melasma, as well as overall skin brightening. Recognizing the need for an effective solution, we developed the Snow line by stabilizing a blend of 10 active ingredients known for their brightening benefits.

Q2. What causes melasma and pigmentation?

A. When the skin is exposed to UV rays, it naturally produces melanin as a way to protect itself. Melanin acts as a defense mechanism by blocking or absorbing UV rays, helping to reduce UV-induced damage. However, melasma and hyperpigmentation occur when melanin is overproduced and accumulates in the skin.

The Snow line and Dark Spot Corrector are designed to target melanin at each stage, helping you better understand and manage this process through a step-by-step approach to brightening care.

Skin Turnover and Pigmentation

When skin turnover—the natural process by which the skin renews itself—is functioning well, melanin is naturally shed, helping freckles fade and melasma appear less noticeable. Conversely, when turnover is impaired, melanin is not properly eliminated and can accumulate, leading to persistent hyperpigmentation such as melasma and freckles.

Q3. What is the difference between dark and light melasma?

A. The difference lies in where the pigmentation occurs and how deep it originates within the skin. Lighter melasma typically develops when pigmentation forms in the outermost layer of the skin, whereas darker melasma occurs when pigmentation originates in the deeper layers.

Q4. Compared to other companies’ melasma care lines, what sets the Snow Line apart?

A. Many competing products rely on niacinamide, an MFDS-approved brightening ingredient known for its effectiveness, which is why it’s so widely used in functional skincare. However, niacinamide mainly works by inhibiting the transfer of melanin and does not address the other stages of the pigmentation process.

What differentiates Atomy is that, in addition to niacinamide, it combines nine other active ingredients—for a total of ten. Since melasma develops through a complex, multi-step process, it’s important to address it at each stage. The Atomy Snow Line stands out by targeting multiple steps through various mechanisms, delivering more comprehensive and effective brightening care.

Q5. Could you briefly introduce the Dark Spot Corrector?

A. The Dark Spot Corrector features LBL technology. LBL (Layer-by-Layer) stabilizes both water- and oil-soluble active ingredients in separate layers. This technology also enhances skin adherence, allowing the roller to glide smoothly while maintaining close contact to help boost absorption and provide a gentle massaging effect.

More specifically, it offers the following four key benefits.

Feature 1. Targeted Spot Care with High-Adherence Cream Ampoule

Delivers intensive care to areas of pigmentation, helping to reveal a clearer, more radiant skin.

Clinically Proven Dual Melanin-Reducing Effect
After 4 weeks of using the Atomy Absolute Snow Dark Spot Corrector,
dark melasma decreased by 15.83% and lighter melasma by 14.49% confirming a dual melanin-reducing effect (p<.001)

Feature 2. Active Emulsion Stabilization Technology for Enhanced Skin Adhesion
STEP 1

LBL (Layer-by-Layer) technology separates and stores hydrophilic and lipophilic active ingredients in suitable carriers

STEP 2

Densely structured particle walls encapsulating emollients help stabilize active ingredients while maximizing adherence to the skin

Feature 3. Rich, Hydrating Care

Formulated with seven carefully selected herbs—chosen for their powerful brightening benefits—from 100 herbs found in the pristine Alpine highlands.

Feature 4. Seven Herbal Extracts for Clearer, More Radiant Skin

Active ingredients with a lamellar structure similar to the skin’s natural lipids help fill in gaps in the skin barrier, improving elasticity and restoring a smoother, more resilient skin.

Q6. How does the Dark Spot Corrector feel on the skin?

A. It adheres closely to the skin, much like a highly concentrated essence. The roller also provides a gentle massaging effect, helping the formula apply evenly and enhancing absorption. It is optimized to target existing melasma and hyperpigmentation.

Q7. Can it be used on dull areas other than melasma spots?

A. Yes. Since dullness, freckles, and melasma are largely caused by melanin, it can be effectively applied to those areas as well.

Q8. How should it be used?

A. We recommend using it once in the morning and once in the evening. As mentioned earlier, melanin is produced as part of the skin’s natural defense mechanism. When used in the morning, it helps protect the skin from daytime UV exposure and prevents melanin from settling, promoting a brighter, clearer skin. When used at night, it helps protect the skin during sleep and reduce stress, supporting healthier, more radiant skin.

Q9. Can people with sensitive skin use this product?

A. Yes. During development, our researchers reviewed numerous scientific studies and carefully evaluated the irritation potential of each ingredient at different concentrations. Based on these findings, the formula was optimized to ensure it is safe for use.

Q10. How should it be used depending on the season?

A. While UV exposure is especially strong in the summer—making it particularly important to use during that time—it is recommended for year-round use. Regardless of the season, be sure to use it together with sunscreen.
