- ABSOLUTE
Not a single Atomy product is created without careful thought and dedication.
Absolute: While some people might not have tried it, no one stops at just once after using it.Absolute CellActive Skincare is a premium cosmetic product that represents Atomy.
Its research and development took a full year and a half. This might seem long, but it reflects the dedication and passion of the researchers who aim to create exceptional cosmetics.
Six years since its launch, Absolute CellActive Skincare continues to expand Atomy’s beauty product horizons globally.
We spoke with Lee Hyun-sook, managing director of the Kolmar Korea Skin-care R&D Lab., to learn about the challenges and triumphs in developing Absolute CellActive Skincare.
Q & A
- How did you feel when Absolute CellActive Skincare was launched?
- As a researcher, it felt like giving birth. It took immense time and effort, but the recognition and technical certification made it incredibly rewarding. I’m sure my colleagues who worked on the research and development feel the same pride.
- Can you explain the 'CellActive™ Code & Technology’ in simple terms?
- The skin is made up of various types of cells with specialized receptors. CellActive™ Technology helps identify which cells need specific active ingredients.
- Why was ‘CellActive™ Code & Technology' so difficult to develop, and how did it achieve such high recognition, including the Quadruple Crown?
- The skin is a formidable barrier, protecting us by blocking external substances, including beneficial active ingredients. Formulating a way to deliver these ingredients precisely where needed is a significant challenge. We adopted a pharmaceutical approach known as the Drug Delivery System to guide these ingredients effectively. This innovative method was highly regarded for its efficacy, earning high expert evaluations.
- What was the most challenging part of the development
- Balancing the formulation for a harmonious usage experience was particularly tough. Absolute contains many active ingredients, and maintaining stability while developing a cohesive set of six products was complex. The Atomy product development team thoroughly reviews samples, ensuring no gaps in usability. This meticulous process allowed Absolute products to succeed globally, making me proud as a researcher.
- How long did the development take?
- It took about a year and a half to develop Absolute, with the review process extending the timeline. Some products can be developed and launched in just three months, but a longer development period often ensures higher quality through extensive testing and refinement.
- Were you surprised by the launch prices?
- As researchers, we don’t set the final prices, but knowing the ingredients and effort involved, we had our expectations. When the launch price was set at 198,000 won for a 6-piece set, we thought it was solely the price of one Ampoule. So, we were amazed by Atomy’s decision to offer it at such an affordable price. It was a bit surprising, but it highlighted Atomy's commitment to value.
- How would you describe Absolute CellActive Skincare in a nutshell?
- It’s challenging to sum it up in one word, but I’d say, “Even if there are people who haven’t used it, there is no one who has tried it just once.” I truly believe the effectiveness of Absolute is what keeps people coming back, beyond just the price or packaging.
- What would you like to say to Atomy members and consumers?
- Absolute holds personal significance for me. I poured my heart into developing it, and I’m deeply grateful for its success. I’d like to thank Atomy and its members. No Atomy product is made without thorough effort and consideration. The company prioritizes consumers over profits, often taking longer to develop products. We’ll continue to create high-quality products, and I hope you’ll support our future endeavors as much as you’ve loved Absolute. We promise to deliver even better products with advanced technology.
